Martin Luther (1483–1546) was a German theologian, preacher, and writer, one of the key figures of the Reformation and the founder of the Lutheran tradition. As an author, he left behind a vast literary legacy: theological treatises, sermons, commentaries on biblical books, letters, hymns, and catechisms. His most famous works are the "95 Theses," which sparked the Reformation, as well as the "Small Catechism" and "Large Catechism," created to teach the foundations of the Christian faith to children, families, and communities. His translation of the Bible into German is of particular significance—this work not only made the Holy Scriptures accessible to a wide range of readers but also substantially influenced the development of the modern German language. Luther's style is distinguished by clarity, directness, and pastoral concern: he sought to make complex theological truths understandable to everyone.
